STANDARDIZED TEST WAIVERS
Both the SAT and ACT allow qualifying students to use a test fee waiver. Only juniors and seniors are allowed to use test waivers; however, you can pay for the exam yourself if you wish to take it earlier. In order to qualify for a waiver a student must have demonstrated one of the following:
Please note that these standards are set forth by both College Board (the SAT) and the ACT. As such, Westlake will be following them. Per these rules, students are only allowed to use the following total number of fee waivers:
Understand that these waivers are tied to the students test registration account. Once the allotted number has been used students will no longer be able to register for a test using a waiver (the account will reject all attempts). If a student wishes to test more than 2 times then they are well within their right to do so. They will simply have to pay the testing fee out-of-pocket.
If you are registering during the late period for either exam there is an additional fee that is charged. Be advised that while SAT test waivers cover this cost, ACT waivers do not. The additional cost for the ACT is $25 dollars and must be covered by the student.
In order to receive a waiver all qualified students should ask in the office of Student Services.
WARNING:
If you receive a waiver form and lose it before registering it will not be replaced (there is a strict log of every waiver issued). Also, if you register for an exam using a waiver and miss your exam session neither the College Board nor the ACT will allow you to reschedule. As a result you will forfeit that waiver.
Both the SAT and ACT allow qualifying students to use a test fee waiver. Only juniors and seniors are allowed to use test waivers; however, you can pay for the exam yourself if you wish to take it earlier. In order to qualify for a waiver a student must have demonstrated one of the following:
- Enrollment in or eligible to participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
- Annual family income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.
- Enrollment in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families (e.g. Federal TRIO programs such as Upward Bound).
- Family receives public assistance.
- Lives in federally subsidized public housing, or a foster home, or are homeless.
- A ward of the state or an orphan.
Please note that these standards are set forth by both College Board (the SAT) and the ACT. As such, Westlake will be following them. Per these rules, students are only allowed to use the following total number of fee waivers:
- 2 SAT Test Waivers
- 2 SAT Subject Test Waivers
- 2 ACT Test Waivers

COLLEGE APPLICATION WAIVERS
Many colleges allow students to use application waivers in order to cover the cost of their admission application. The following application waivers are most common:
--
SAT / ACT COLLEGE APPLICATION WAIVERS
In order to receive an ACT or SAT waiver you must be an eligible senior. This is determined 1 of 2 ways:
1. You used an ACT or SAT test waiver during your junior year
2. You plan on using an ACT or SAT test waiver during your senior year
3. You have demonstrated financial need based on the information in your ACT or SAT account registration
If you are an eligible senior, you will receive your ACT and/or SAT college application waivers electronically after you create your ACT or SAT online account. UNDERSTAND: no staff member at Westlake High School has physical copies of ACT or SAT application waivers to give out. They are all electronic.
Qualifying students can receive (at minimum) 4 SAT college application waivers and/or 4 ACT college application waivers.
--
NACAC COLLEGE APPLICATION WAIVERS
Some schools allow use of the NACAC college application waiver. It is the student's responsibility to research whether or not the school they intend on applying to accepts this waiver. If a school does allow a student to use the NACAC application waiver simply come by the office of Student Services in order to receive one.
We can give out an unlimited number of NACAC application waivers. As such, I'd recommend a student use the NACAC application waiver in place of the SAT or ACT application waiver.
Please note that unlike the SAT and ACT college application waiver, the NACAC waiver does not include a numeric code. As such, you will need to submit your waiver prior to completing your application. Most schools will allow you to scan and email the NACAC college application waiver. You can also fax the waiver or send it via the postal mail.
WARNING:
Navigating the college application waiver process can be tricky. If a school accepts an application waiver chances are their process will differ from one to the other. If you elect to use an application waiver then please follow the instructions carefully and in a timely manner. One important thing to note is that virtually ALL application fees are non-refundable. If you pay the application fee out of pocket and then decide to use a waiver you will not be reimbursed.
